You would have these questions in your mind when you built a cool new gaming rig or when you just took a peep into optimizing your PC for performance. Does OS has something to do with the gaming performance? O wouldn't say no. I have tried gaming in almost all the windows versions starting from Windows XP. When we say OS we will totally skip Linux here as it incompatible for gaming though there are some binaries that will help you play windows games in Linux, but since it consumes a lot of your memory for running the binary its just a dumb idea. Since I haven't tried gaming in Mac I am not judging that either. We will be seeing ti the best among the Windows series for the best gaming experience.
On what basis are we benchmarking the performance? Which all OS are we comparing?
We will be looking Windows Xp Windows 7, Windows 8 and the new Windows 10.
Which is the best OS for Online Gaming?
If you are an online player who plays games like Dota or Gta V, WIndows Xp will show the performance that wont last long. As Microsoft abandoned windows Xp its reported there has been a lot of threats on XP . So if you get hacked blame yourself. So What about the Windows 7 Windows 7 will have a bit of shredded performance as the Aero effect consumes more than what it needs. But not to worry optimizing by putting it performance mod will solve the issue. So What about Windows 8. Windows 8 doesn't kill the performance but will definitely kill the bandwidth. All the apps syncing behind Windows 8 will drink your bandwidth. Windows 10, Well I would say Windows 10 with builts available for testing. I think its good for gaming at all. But cant judge until the final one is out. Tested Windows 10 built 9926 and 10074. Both had a very low fps and was annoying. It looks like most of the video drivers for the devices are not yet out. But its said that Windows 10 will be good for gaming with DX12 out along with it. So until the final release is out we wont blame Windows 10.
So in the end Windows 7 and Windows 8 stays. If you do some tweaks on both the OS we can get the best out of both of em. In my opinion windows 7 is best and that's what I use in mine. I have also noticed that there is a slight problem with the performance when you install a lot of soft wares.
